Accreditation
OCN Credits for Learning
Your students can now claim OCN credits from OCNCredits4Learning for completing
Gigajam courses.
OCN credits are aligned with the National Credit Framework and can be used by
students as evidence of achievement when applying for Further Education courses.
How it works in practice
First your school has to register with OCNCredits4Learning to become an OCN
centre. Then a member of staff is identified as the OCN assessor and given some
OCN training.
Throughout all four Gigajam courses there are key exercises, or assessment
units, that must be observed by your school's OCN assessor.
These observable assessment units are combined with an online portfolio (http://my.gigajam.com) where students are
able to store their Xtractor performance files.
The online portfolio analyses each uploaded exercise using the same process as
Xtractor and reports a percentage score alongside each exercise as well as a
total percentage when a level has been completed.
When the assessment units have been observed and the portfolio filled then the
assessor can claim the student's credits from OCN.
Each Gigajam level equates to 14 OCN credits, and each credit represents 10
learner hours.
Different Gigajam levels equate to different OCN levels as below:
|
Gigajam Level |
OCN Credits |
|
Level 1 |
14 Entry Level OCN Credits |
|
Level 2 |
14 Level One OCN Credits |
|
Level 3 |

More information
You do not need to go for
accreditation to use the online portfolio, simply encourage your students to use
it as a simple e-portfolio. You can find it at
http://my.gigajam.com. The online portfolio is new and being beta tested at
present. Please use it and if you come across a bug, please use the "report a
bug" facility so our developers can create a better portfolio site for your use.
